I hope there is a price drop, I doubt it will be less than MQ3 but I guess we will just have to wait and see.ītw, I bought the standalone PSVR as well, it was only $200 and I never got around to buying move controllers. For PSVR the move controllers were already available separately and not every game required them, so it was an easy compromise. I don’t think we will see a similar deep discount because Sony isn’t going to sell the PSVR2 headset w/o the controllers. Back in the old days, most consoles only lasted about 5 years before the new tech console took over. I'd say a 4 year life cycle for a VR device add on seems pretty good and reasonable with 6 million sold. Then sadly, by 2020, after that onslaught of new games, things trickled in and by 2021, there might have been 5 new games or so. That's great for an add on device to the PS4. It went from its intro in 2016 through about 100 new games in 1 year in 2019 and in the end, nearly 6 million units sold. I hear your concerns, but PSVR1 did thrive long after that heavy price cut which was only temporary, and the price went back up to $349 shortly after and held that price for a good year plus. If you want this thing to thrive I wouldn't be hoping for that kind of a price cut so soon. Like I said, that deep a discount less than a year in would be a bad sign from Sony and we all saw how quickly they abandoned any significant 1st party support for the PSVR1. PSVR2 is more of a challenge since the novelty of VR is already established with PSVR1. The reasoning? It will generate more units sold, which generates more interest in why it's suddenly selling more units, and then 2 million units sold can eventually jump up to 6 miliion units sold or something along those lines for PSVR1. I'm going to guess if it's now $549 and $599, then it'll drop to $299 temporarily during holiday 2023 for PSVR2's base unit. I like to be able to freely move in 3D space, no warping to spots which is awful IMO and breaks immersion totally.īut yes, that's why I say the PSVR2 will most likely go on a big sale for Holiday 2023. I had to buy the $39.99 PS4 camera, but didn't bother with the Move sticks, and never will as there were plenty of non-move games and I didn't like the limited movement with the move sticks. That is when I jumped into VR for the first time, December 2017 and I have the receipt to prove it was $199.99. Actually, if we go back to December Holiday 2017, only a year or so after PSVR1's $399 price for the base unit and $449 for the one with the Move sticks, camera and game (around there), Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop and some other retailers lowered the PSVR1 for a mere 2 weeks or so to the very appealing price of $199.99 for the base PSVR1 brand new.
